Star Wars Episode I, VHS, Fullscreen, Bootleg "Z" version

This is a VHS copy of the infamous "Z"-version camcorded release that did the rounds back in 1999, just days after Episode I premiered in US theatres. That release came with the film spread across two VCD discs, and this VHS copy has a break right where disc 1 of the VCD ended. Thus this is a VHS recording of a VCD disc. It has been transcoded into PAL and is in Hi-Fi, but the content is the same as the regular "Z" version.
I debated whether I'd include this particular tape here on my site. It's an obvious bootleg, and I'll not make a habit of including them here, but when I happened on it on eBay UK back in 2009 my curiosity got the better of me. Bootlegs such as this serve a purpose as a non-refutable document of the original, theatrical presentation of these films. With these, editing, soundtrack and subtitle placement can be verified against later releases. |
