Return of the Jedi, VHS, 20th Century Fox Video USA, 1992

This tape is part of the Star Wars Trilogy Widescreen box set released in the USA in 1992.

The film is presented in letterboxed widescreen, preserving the full image of the original film. Audio is Hi-Fi Stereo, with embedded Pro Logic surround sound. The widescreen transfers used are the ones we first saw on the Japanese Special Collection Laserdiscs from 1986/1987, and which were subsequently used for the US Widescreen Collection Laserdiscs in 1989. On Return of the Jedi, the image is shifted upwards off-centre to accomodate the alien subtitles outside of the image area. I don't think it was a good idea.

Empire and Jedi have CBS/Fox Video logos at the beginning, while the first Star Wars does not, reflecting the split distribution rights of the film pre-1997.
