A few years after the 2001 premiere of Episode I on DVD, these single-disc versions started showing up in bargain bins everywhere. There is no chapter guide included, but it still has the inside printing so Fox didn't cheap out completely.
The release still carries a 2001 copyright, and houses the "old" 2001-disc (same as the UK got), so I can't determine just when this single-disc release supplanted the 2-disc version. Both this and Episode II seemed to get single-disc releases around the time Episode III came out, so I guesstimate the year to be 2005. I bought mine in 2007. Both Episode I and Episode II got the single-disc treatment, but Episode III remained a 2-disc release (apart from the rental version).
