Droids - Der Killer Satellit/ aka. The Battle Against Sise Fromm, VHS, CBS/Fox Video, Germany 1988

The contents of this German volume should correspond to the UK Vol. 1, "The Battle Against Sise Fromm", containing these four episodes:
  • The White Witch
  • Escape into Terror
  • The Trigon Unleashed
  • A Race to the Finish

BUT...

CBS/Fox and the video editor put the wrong title card on the "Das Geheimnis von Roon" story arc, calling it "Der Killersatellit". This caused confusion for the replicator who mixed up the labeling on the German Droids releases. Despite the "Der Killersatellit" title appearing on the cover and on-screen, the actual episodes are from the "Roon" arc. The confusion causes the tapes to get mixed up, and the result is that I actually don't have the tape that belongs to this cover.

This is where it gets complicated, but I'll try to explain as best I can. Both of these tapes are labelled with the "Der Killersatellit" title, but one contains the "Das Geheimnis von Roon" story arc (covered with a makeshift sticker), the other has the "Die Piraten von Tarnoonga" episodes (but printed "Killersatellit" on the tape from the factory.

Hence you get variant 1, where the cassette is printed with the title "Das Geheimnis von Roon" (which is the correct content of the actual episodes on the tape). Then, someone looked at the film, saw it was titled "Der Killersatellit", and put a label on the tape covering the printed "Roon" title, and put it in the cover for the "Killersatellit" release.

Then you get variant 2, where the replicator has printed the "Der Killersatellit" title on the cassette, but the actual episodes are from the "Die Piraten von Tarnoonga" arc. How they managed to get that wrong is beyond me, because this programme has the actual title card correct.

The German Droids tapes come in big Amaray covers, bearing the CBS/Fox Video imprint on the top. The tapes were manufactured in the UK, but have German language dubbing and German opening and closing credits. The German vocals on the opening song ("In trouble again") are stronger than the English performance. The episodes have been edited together without title cards.

The Droids and Ewoks series have very varied artwork across the regions. There was apparently no finalized marketing art to work from, so each territory has unique artwork.
