The Empire Strikes Back, Laserdisc (CAV), CBS/Fox video, 1985
This CAV Laserdisc (referred to as "Standard play") version of Empire enabled the viewer to freeze-frame and step forward/back the entire film to study the effects work. The CAV encoding was generally accepted as yielding better picture quality, but at the expense of convenience - the film had to be spread to four sides across two platters.
These don't show up too often and are comparatively rare to the regular CLV ("Extended play") edition. A similar CAV edition of Return of the Jedi was never issued in the USA.
