Star Wars, Laserdisc, 20th Century-Fox video UK, 1982

The fledgling laserdisc format met with limited success in the UK, and 20th Century-Fox only issued the first movie in the early days of home video. (The Laserdisc issues of the sequels were co-sponsored by a local UK distributor.) The jacket says 20th Century Fox Video, but as the film starts it says "CBS-Fox Video presents". As you can see from the screenshot below, they didn't even have a proper "CBS/Fox logo" to put before the film. Although referred to as "Laservision", it is the same format as Laserdisc.

The jacket art has a misprint on the back, "Captain Hans Solo", that I have seen claimed as a variation, though I have never come across a copy with the spelling corrected. (I have three copies.)

The proliferation of the Laserdisc format in the UK was small and these discs rarely show up on the second hand market. Particularily the sequels are hard to come by. I've never come by a set in satisfactory physical condition, and these discs are prone to so-called "Laser rot" as well. My three copies were bought between 2003 and 2009, and still seem to be play fine as of 2025, but who knows how long that will last?
